Director, Center for Teaching Excellence & Learning Innovation (CTELI)

As Director, CTELI, I conceptualize and lead initiatives focused on faculty’s continuous professional development, programmatic quality assurance, and policy making at IQRA University.  I am entrusted with up-scaling and revamping the brand image of our PhD-prepared faculty by designing quality assurance mechanisms and by linking them to globally recognized professional growth opportunities across their teaching disciplines of media studies, business administration, engineering sciences, education and learning sciences, fashion design, and health sciences. To this end, I am leading institutional policy-making focused on: (a) Higher Ed. faculty development, (b) innovative, purpose-driven pedagogical designs, (c) faculty teaching & research trajectories, and (d) global opportunities and faculty retention.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED)

 

(May, 2019- Aug 2021): As Quality Analyst, Curriculum Review Institute, I accomplished leadership of:

  • State level curriculum review at the NMPED Review Institute hosted by NMPED-Instructional Materials Bureau

  • review and appraisal meetings including consensus discussions

  • capacity building and training of reviewers

  • daily meetings with the review teams including quality analyst and the Instructional Bureau

  • official documentation of the recommendations presented to State Secretary of State

(Nov, 2018- Aug 2021): As Instructional Leader, I was responsible for:

  • ​IEP determination, policies, and accommodations

  • Federal documentation of IEPs, METs and PWNs for all case managed district students 

  • Mentor of Record: English Language Arts  (full-time/ School Year)  and Introduction to Engineering Design/ Visual Programming (STEAM lab)​.

Accomplishments to date include:

  • Board of Governors’ approved Faculty Continuous Professional Development Policy (Dec 7, 2021)

The Aga Khan University, Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED)

  • (2009-2012): As E-Learning Coordinator developed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and conducted annual needs analyses to develop and update the institutional strategic plan and marketing strategy.

  • (2009-2012): As Coordinator, ED-LINKS English Resource Persons’ Program coordinated the English team for the capacity building initiative funded by USAID ($90 million) and managed by the American Institutes of Research (AIR) and AKU-IED. In accordance with the KPIs (key performance indicators) and budgetary guidelines, I led the academic team that collaborated with education managers and worked with in-service English teachers in marginalized districts to strategically develop and implement quality curricular learning tools. I partnered with Head Teachers to lead research iterations for professional development of 2000 in-service female teachers across primary and secondary government schools and assisted the AIR team with the third party verification.

 

  • (2009-2010): As Member AKU Vision 2020 Strategy was responsible for: (a) synthesizing vision documents from World Bank, CERI, and UNESCO; (b) interviewing influential local leaders and experts in public policy, industry, media, education, local and provincial govt., and social reform organizations; (c) support the planning and operations of two retreats: London Dialogue (Oct 2009) and Karachi Dialogue (Feb 2010); and (d) developing Vision 2020 Strategic Plan Report for ratification by the Board of Trustees.

 

  • (2005-2006): As Coordinator, Academic Support Unit formalized student support services in the areas of Academic English, computing skills, counseling, library skills, and statistics. I taught English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses focused on academic reading and writing instruction based on ‘Writing across Curriculum’ and led the test design team for graduate program entrance test.

Consultancy Projects: USA-based

Organizational NAEYC Accreditation, Pre-school Academy of North Albuquerque

August 2018 - March 2019

 

Dr Salman provided consultancy to this corporate Educational Child Care to assist them in their center's accreditation with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). She designed and implemented educational products for teacher mentoring and tools for classroom observation including interview protocols for teachers and parents. Data from these products formed the basis for evidence-based portfolios in accordance with the accreditation requirements for classrooms ranged across children aged 18 months to 5 years old. This client successfully received the NAEYC accreditation on August 12, 2019.

Organizational CAEP Accreditation, Pennsylvania College of Education

August 2017- July 2018

Dr Salman worked with the Associate Dean’s team towards getting the programs in the College of Education accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). She coordinated with the Assessment and Accreditation Coordinator to organize the assessment data based on the CAEP criteria from the teacher preparation programs in the College of Education and affiliated Penn State Colleges. She also synthesized research literature and worked on the initial drafts of the accreditation report.
